Small square 8vo.; publisher’s pictorial card covers printed in chromolithography with wrap-around design, silk cord ties; pp. [28]; with letterpress title-page and text throughout in grey, in cursive font; with 14 full-bleed chromolithographed plates,including a centre-spread depicting two scenes in Berlin; a pleasing copy with external dust-soiling and some marking, as usual, soiling to ties, abrasion to spine fold with no splitting, and small surface chips to head and tail; internally dusted throughout with a neat contemporary ink inscription to title-page; a pleasing copy of the most elusive of the Ainslie peg-doll books.

First edition.  Ainslie’s characterful plates of her wooden-peg dolls show them trying the latest fashions in Paris; hiking and rock-climbing in Switzerland, watching a military parade in Berlin; horse riding and beer drinking in Germany, being abducted by brigands in the Alps and being rescued in an airship
