Original dark grey/black boards lettered in gilt to spine in pink pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [iv] + 328; a near fine copy with a slight lean, protected by an unusually fresh example of a scarce unclipped dustwrapper (30s. £1.50) with some sun-lightening and mild dust-soiling to spine and lower panel, a small nick to top fore-corner of upper panel, an unobtrusive closed tear (15mm) to bottom edge of upper panel (now neatly repaired to the reverse with archival tissue), and a little abrasion to head and heel of spine. 

First edition.  Inscribed in ink by the author to the front free endpaper, “To Michael, best wishes, Andrea”.  The infamous story of a father’s possessive love for his daughter, which was made into a controversial landmark TV series released in the 1970s.
