Cathleen Naundorf, born 1968 in East Germany, relocated with her family in 1985 where she studied graphics, design and painting at the Municipal College for Design in Munich. Her subsequent career began as an intrepid photojournalist, recording indigenous cultures and telling their stories. By 1989 she had shifted her focus to fashion photography, melding a painterly and photographic eye inspired by the antique. She gained unprecedented access to the archives of houses such as Chanel, Gaultier and Valentino and her images have appeared in editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Tatler and are housed in prestigious collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and New York’s Metropolitan Museum.
