4to.; publisher’s teal cloth elaborately decorated in antique gilt to spine and upper board, with fairyland roundel in relief to upper cover, top edges gilt; pp. [vi], vii-xiii + 378 + [i]; with letterpress title in red and black and a total of 32 full-colour plates by Goble, all protected by captioned guards; an attractive copy with dulling to cover gilt as usual and some rubbing to pictorial roundel, bruising to spine ends but no splitting, some abrasion to joints and tiny wear to forecorner tips; internally fine, crisp and clean throughout save the usual (and seemingly unavoidable) heavy offset-tanning to front and rear pastedowns, without ownership inscription, or other internal signs of use.
First edition illustrated by Warwick Goble, with the full complement of thirty-two coloured plates. Later editions of this work were abridged and included twenty-five stories, and sixteen coloured plates.
