About me

My love for old books, illustration, and first editions, began over forty years ago when family friends founded Palladour Books, a pocket company which dealt in First World War poetry and prose. I would help them in the summer months while at university studying French and Spanish and trawl the West Country bookshops (then in abundance) hunting down treasures for a few pounds.

Paid work as an antiquarian bookseller began in 1988 with an apprenticeship at Henry Sotheran Ltd., then of Sackville Street, Piccadilly, where I set up the Illustrated and Children’s Books department in my first year. It quickly grew from strength to strength, eventually becoming one of the busiest areas of the shop.

After 37 wonderful years there I have now branched out on my own. With more freedom to explore I plan to expand my chosen area of bookselling with a richer curated inventory featuring fine illustration and design, children’s classics and novels, notable juveniles from across the centuries, and various curiosities.
