Small 8vo. circa 78 x 123mm; plainly bound in contemporary full mottled tan calf, flat spines with darker brown bands, beaded, blocked in compartments, and lettered, in gilt with gilt volume number roundels; [iii], iv-xxvii + [v] + 292; [iv] + 327, [vii] + [v] + 324; [vi] + 328, including Notes on the text to the rear of each volume; with wood-engraved frontispiece and pictorial title to each book preceding letterpress title-pages; otherwise unillustrated; a very sound and pleasing little set with rubbing to spines and overall dusting, one lower inner hinge cracked but firm, abrasions to edges and corner tips, small nicking to spine ends with a couple and unobtrusive chips; internally good with dust-soiling, especially to prelims, some thumbing, and the occasional fox-spot and mark with uniform toning to stock.

A scarce early edition, complete in four little volumes; pocket-sized but readable.
