8vo.; orange/red linson boards lettered in black to spine, in decorated dustwrapper; pp. [viii], 5-256; a near fine copy with a minute bruise to bottom forecorner of upper cover, internally fine and crisp and, apparently unread, without inscription, preserved in an uncommonly attractive dustwrapper with a little dusting, light browning to lower panel, tiny nicking and rubbing to spine ends and forecorners, one 3mm closed tear to top edge of lower panel, a 6mm closed tear to lower forecorner fold, and a 3mm scuffed spot to spine.
First edition. The Pale Horse is a reference to the Book of Revelation 6:8, where it is ridden by death. A sinister tale with a slightly more supernatural tone than Christie usually adopts, and with a cameo appearance by Ariadne Oliver. Adapted several times for television and radio, most notably in a two-part version for BBC, in 2019, by Sarah Phelps, starring Rufus Sewell, Sean Pertwee and Rita Tushingham.
