Original royal blue finely ribbed cloth elaborately beautifully, and pictorially, decorated in gilt to spine and both covers; pp. [xv], 16-262 + [ii]; strikingly illustrated with full-page plates and pictorial panels in rich black and white; a near fine copy with a touch of dulling to spine gilt; internally remarkably fresh, with a neat prize inscription dated 1909 to Ivy Goodwin Simmonds, aged 4 years 11 months, for elocution; scarce.

First edition.  A collection of whimsical illustrated stories of magic, mischief and wonder revolving around the figure of King Longbeard who resides in a Golden Dreamland. It features fantastical elements such as enchanted kingdoms.
